Mysterious night OnCall
Mysterious Patient
"Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to read this. My name is Paul, and this is the story of my journey as a medical assistant. I have chosen this topic to share my experiences of becoming a medical assistant. Since graduating and starting my career in the aforementioned job, I was so excited. I had my first day of duty on April 2nd, 2012, at the Sarawak General Hospital. I worked at the triage counter, and my first patient was a little girl who was brought to the hospital with respiratory distress. I worked diligently to assist the aforementioned patient.
My first day of duty was tiring, but I enjoyed working in an effervescent and cheerful atmosphere. Eventually, I made a lot of new friends at the workplace, which was awesome. After completing the PPW posting period, I was required to move to another station, which became my second station in my career. I was assigned to a rural clinic in a small village in Kapit. I was bewildered when I received that offer, but regardless of the distance from my hometown, I was always ready to move. I ensured to endeavor in giving the best service to the people around.
My journey from Kuching to Sibu took 9 hours by bus, and from Sibu to Kapit, it took approximately 5 hours. It was tiring, but I enjoyed the pleasant sight of the view during my journey. Kapit is a small town located in the middle of Sarawak state, known for its multiracial population with various ethnic groups. Each ethnic group has its own unique costume, distinct language, culture, and ritual practices. The aforementioned town has no road connecting it to another city, so the residents rely on the river as their primary means of transportation. Ultimately, I had unforgettable and interesting experiences during my time working in Kapit city. I enjoyed reminiscing about the thrilling waterfalls and beautiful rainforest.
After having dinner at 7 PM, I went to my hotel room to pack all my things because the next morning I would start another journey to my new workplace. At 7 AM, I checked out from the hotel and headed over to the boat terminal. I bought one ticket to my next destination. My new workplace is Nanga Merirai, located on the Baleh River side. It took 3 hours for the journey by express boat through the Sarawak Rejang River. I was afraid of the river and didn't even know how to swim, but I liked seeing the beautiful scenery along the journey. It was so invigorating to see the bright sky and feel the cold breeze on my face. Eventually, I didn't realize that three hours had passed until I saw my destination ahead.
The boat's driver slowed down at the riverbank to drop me off. I thought I was the only person stopping there, but I saw many other people who had also stopped. I had some conversations with them about the place and asked them a lot of things. Ultimately, I found out that the place where I worked was 500 meters away from the riverbank where the boat had dropped me off. I was totally bewildered, but I was both excited and nervous about the adventure ahead. It took me a while to think about how to bring all my luggage through the creepy trail. A few moments later, a man approached me and offered to help. Wak Sumbu was a local man who offered to help me.
I was delighted and continued my journey. It was 12 noon, and after a long day under the sweltering sun, we decided to stop at a tree to drink some water. I asked Wak Sumbu, 'Wak, how much further do we need to walk? We have already been walking for 15 minutes.' He answered me, 'Just a little bit more, just a few steps away from here... hehehe.'
Considering that we were walking in the afternoon and I perceived that he must be tired and hungry, I gave him some food and drink. I also gave him some tips...
To be continued..."
